About the job:

We’re looking for experienced Network Servicepeople to help maintain and repair our water, stormwater and wastewater networks across Masterton. The Network Serviceperson is responsible for the operational performance, monitoring, maintenance, and fault response of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure assets across the region.

The role involves ensuring continuity of service, asset functionality, regulatory compliance, and safe system operation through proactive and reactive network management activities.

The position exercises technical judgement in diagnosing system faults, determining appropriate remedial actions, and maintaining operational standards across distributed water and wastewater networks.

This is a full time, permanent position. You will be required to work Monday – Friday (min 40 hours per week). Roles include on-call and standby roster, which can include weekend & evening work.

Key Responsibilities include:
• Monitor and maintain the operational performance of water and wastewater networks to ensure service continuity and system reliability
• Independently assess and diagnose network faults and determine appropriate remedial actions
• Plan and execute maintenance, repair, and renewal activities in accordance with operational standards
• Undertake water main shutdowns, service restorations, and network performance optimisation activities
• Perform installation, repair, and maintenance of reticulation infrastructure including mains, services, valves, hydrants, meters, and stormwater assets
• Conduct CCTV inspections and utilise specialised equipment to identify and resolve network issues
• Operate machinery and field equipment in support of network operations
• Liaise professionally with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support effective service delivery
• Ensure full compliance with safety, traffic management, regulatory, and organisational standards

What you’ll need:

You will bring demonstrated experience or education in water and/or wastewater network operations, with the ability to exercise independent judgement in diagnosing and resolving operational issues. You are confident working autonomously in the field while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and service excellence.

Experience in infrastructure works, fault response, asset maintenance, and regulatory environments is highly regarded. Relevant industry qualifications in water or wastewater operations are advantageous.

• Relevant Level 4 qualification or at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in the Water Maintenance Industry is desirable.
• We need someone who is able and willing to participate in the on-call and standby roster.
• You will need to be physically fit, health and safety focused and work well in a team as well as independently.
• A full class 1 and 2 licence is required. The ability to drive a manual is also preferred.

All preferred candidates will be required to complete preemployment checks to the employer’s satisfaction. These checks include but are not limited to, Ministry of Justice criminal conviction report, medical assessment, and drug and alcohol testing.
