AGRICULTURE/VEHICLE OPERATIONS TUTOR -TELFORD CAMPUS

FULL TIME PERMANENT

Southern Institute of Technology a business division of Te Pūkenga is looking to appoint a suitably qualified person to the above position at our Telford Campus near Balclutha.

The tutor would be responsible for teaching farm maintenance, vehicle operation, general farm workshop skills, stock handling, riparian planting, and other generalist agriculture skills to assist the tutorial team in animal production and other farming practices.

You will have experience and knowledge of a range of farming practices especially related to farm maintenance, agri-vehicles, new and workshop technologies, and have the patience to support others to learn these skills.

The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:

Tertiary Qualification in Agriculture or other primary industries
A range of experience in farming systems especially farm maintenance, safe agri-vehicle operation, and workshop technology.
A teaching qualification or willingness to complete the New Zealand Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5), offered through SIT, and willingness to continually learn.
Current knowledge of workplace Health and Safety legislation, the ability to role model correct behaviours, and teach others to integrate health and safety into everyday practice.
Current knowledge of Animal Welfare regulations, the ability to role model correct behaviours and teach others to integrate animal welfare practices into everyday practice.
Maintain order in workspaces and operation of resources.
Competence with Microsoft suite of programmes, particularly Word and Excel.
Effective organisational /time management skills.
Effective team member.
Effective communication skills to coach and assess all age groups against standards, especially youth.
Full driver's license – in addition motorbike and Class 2 are an advantage.
Health and safety are priorities of this role, and the successful candidate will be expected to have a good understanding of the H&S requirements and behaviours in the farming environment and strongly adhere to the health and safety of themselves and others.
