Description

Due to an upcoming retirement, School District No. 20 (Kootenay-Columbia) is seeking a full-time Manager of Accounting effective November 1, 2024 , or a mutually agreeable earlier date. This position is exempt and therefore, excluded from union membership.


The School District

Located along the Canada-US border, halfway between Vancouver and Calgary, School District No. 20 (Kootenay-Columbia) acknowledges the land along the slopes of the picturesque Monashee and Selkirk Mountains, and the valleys of the Lower Columbia River Basin where we live, and the First Nations who have been stewards of this land for time immemorial. The Position:

Reporting to the Secretary Treasurer, the Manager of Accounting will primarily supervise and provide expertise to accounting and payroll support staff while maintaining the district’s system of internal controls, to ensure financial information is reliable, accurate and in compliance with district policy, legislative and other external agency requirements (Revenue Canada, Pension Plans etc.). They will also provide guidance and advice in developing and supporting the budgets and financial statements and Ministry of Education and Childcare reporting. The Manager of Accounting provides expertise and support, so the District achieves its vision and objectives.


Qualifications:

This position will appeal to an experienced individual interested in a detailed and challenging position. The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills and have demonstrated organizational and planning abilities in addition to having:


University degree Accounting or Business Administration.
National Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Professional certification
Minimum five years of related work experience, preferably in the public sector, a unionized environment, and/or a similarly complex environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage several important priorities simultaneously
Exemplary work ethic, interpersonal and organizational skills
Self-motivated and self-directed
An in-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Strong knowledge and experience of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial systems (i.e. . SDS)
Knowledge of Ricoh Laserfiche, MyEducation BC, and MySchool Bucks software is preferred.
Class 5 Drivers License and access to a reliable and appropriately insured vehicle.

The annual salary range for this position is $92,029 - $115,037. A benefits package will also be offered.
