Job Title: Staff Accountant with Payroll Experience

Location: Lansing, MI

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: $50,000 - $65,000 annually

 

About Us: Our Robert Half client is currently seeking an experienced Staff Accountant with payroll expertise to join their accounting team. This is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.

 

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing various accounting tasks, including payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong payroll background, and accounting experience that includes bank reconciliation and month/year end processing.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Process payroll for 100 employees.
Prepare and maintain payroll records, reports, and tax filings.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.
Prepare journal entries and support the general accounting functions.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
Conduct variance analysis and provide insights to management.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
Support external audits and provide necessary documentation.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
Prepare monthly sales and use tax filings.

Requirements
Qualifications:

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in accounting with a focus on payroll.
Associate’s degree in accounting or applicable experience.
Proficient in accounting software (preferably MS Dynamics GP) and payroll systems (Paychex.).
Strong understanding of GAAP and payroll regulations.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
