We are seeking a full‑time, permanent Systems Engineer to join our Digital team at EIT.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining the reliability, security, and ongoing improvement of EIT’s core digital platforms and infrastructure. The Systems Engineer provides hands‑on technical expertise and system ownership, working closely with kaimahi (staff), ākonga (students), and stakeholders across the organisation to ensure technology services are resilient, fit‑for‑purpose, and support positive learning and operational outcomes.

This role is based in Hawke’s Bay, reports to the Digital Operations Manager, and contributes to organisational sustainability by supporting business continuity, strong cybersecurity practices, and alignment with EIT’s values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $70,000 and $90,000, dependent on skills and experience.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

Taking technical ownership of enterprise systems and platforms supporting learning, teaching, and organisational operations
Ensuring systems are reliable, secure, well‑documented, and fit for purpose
Providing second‑ and third‑level technical support and participating in the on‑call roster
Contributing to system design, change, and continuous improvement initiatives
Supporting security, risk management, and business continuity activities across EIT systems

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Demonstrated experience in a Systems Engineer or similar enterprise IT role
Strong practical experience administering Microsoft technologies (including Windows Server, Microsoft 365, identity services, and hybrid environments)
Experience supporting Linux and/or Apple systems in a production environment
Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, cybersecurity principles, and secure system configuration
The ability to work independently, provide clear technical advice, and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
